We were itching to try out the Free Time. We live in Woori Yallock and so Cowes was only 90 minutes or so, drive from home. After ‘filling up’ the Free Time with ‘stuff’, off we went – in the dark and rain. Wow, the first venture and we are in bad weather. We hadn’t booked any site, so at the South Gippsland Highway Junction with Bass Highway, we googled and found a site at the Kahalua Caravan Park Resort, just along from the town centre.
Ah, level site, except for a slight forward lean which was rectified by the ramps we had purchased earlier. It rained all night. We had to try out the loo and that was fine.
This was a ‘try everything that is on it’ trip. So the diesel heater was on soon after arrival. Then the electric/gas water boiler. They both worked well. The electric hotplate works well as does the other three gas stove burners. The grill still works and the TV sort of works. Maybe needs a stronger antennae. The DVD player works and the bed works too – we slept well. This is the first time we have stayed in bed watching a DVD ever since we were married 38 years ago. (I still rather the ‘lazy boy in the lounge’ position). We had a ‘no rain’ period, so out came the awning. It works fine. The reverse cycle air conditioner works well, too.
I wrote up notes in the iPhone, of what had to be done when we arrive at a site and what has to be checked when we want to leave. Wow! Quite extensive, really.
The rain held off in the afternoon for an hour or two to let us get to the town for a look around. The ‘clean-skins’ shop had some items which could be used in the motorhome so they were purchased. Otherwise, just a hot chocolate at the cafe was enjoyed.
The Sunday had sunshine and we had to leave. We decided to go to Wonthagi to meet up with a chapter of Campervan & Motorhome Club of Australia who were using the football ground for the weekend, but they had left. So we travelled north towards Korumburra and found a great spot with an expansive view of the South Gippsland coast. Lyn cooked up a lunch, McSpains, and we took advantage of the winter sun streaming into the Free Time.
We had enjoyed our first weekend away in our dream home, thanks to Narell, Lyn’s sister.
